RHONDU STUD aka GRASS HUT STATION Drive yourself to some good old fashioned country hospitality at ‘Grass Hut’ Station, 7km south of Mingela, on the road to Ravenswood. It’s all bitumen, and you can’t miss the iconic blue and white colour scheme on everything from the gate posts to the trucks. Grass Hut is a 20,000 acre cattle property, that is the home of Barry and Liz Miller’s Rhondu Stud, one of the biggest quarter horse studs in Queensland. There’s always plenty happening there, with horses in the winter campdraft season, including a campdraft clinic and novice campdraft on July 8-9 and their annual campdraft, challenge, bison draft and bullride on August 17-20. Grey Nomads cherish helping with simple chores and assisting in the running of these events. Some make it their annual event, taking up on the free non-powered camping offered in return, so call in advance if you are interested. Enjoy a slice of station life, the native animals, or for gold fossickers - search the property for that big nugget! Whether you stay a day or a week, you’re guaranteed to enjoy the warm bush hospitality at Grass Hut Station.
